A Tragic Dilemma

It was a dark and stormy dawn.6:00 AM, Thursday, 07 November 2013. That was the day when typhoon Yolanda hit the Philippine Area of Responsibility. They say, you can hear the the sounds of people screaming in agony. Screaming for help.

Hearing from the outside of your sinking house, you were panicking and slowly drowning, trapped on the roof of your house. When the water reached your head, you lost consciousness. You woke up, the sun light on your face heating you up, you found your self lying on the ground, you stood up, beside you is a person lying his face was pale then you jumped out of fright because you realized the person was dead!

Tacloban, the most affected place that was hit by the the typhoon, almost 10,000 people died because of the tragedy. Now, people are still being revived from the trauma. They are still having a very mischievous life. Lost love ones, wife, husband, children, including pets. Sleepless nights because of hunger and the voices of restless spirits they hear, wanting and needing for help, calling others to save their lives even thou they were dead.

There was like war to every village Tacloban has, because of the need for food, water and clothing. And because of the struggle for survival they rather kill for the need than to die in starvation.

15 April 2014, the day I went to Tacloban, the first thing I saw, when I arrived, were skeleton like houses, the only thing left you can see were the foundations.

There, we spent three days teaching children about God and the people who were loyal and honest to him, like the story of "Daniel and the lion's Den." I talked to some of the kids in the place and realized that every child had their own experiences, every person had their stories in the calamity.

But even if the large dilemma stroke them. I learned a lesson that Filipinos have a culture of smiling always even in a middle of a problem. And God never lets them down, he still remains merciful and never careless. He gave them a beautiful blessing of mountains full of trees and a wide sea that is pleasing to the eye.
